ASK THE DOCTOR WITH DR. CHAFFOO

What treatment, if anything, can I do to get my hair back?

Hi  and thank you for your question. I'm sorry to hear about your problem but the localized area of hair loss appears to be quite treatable using hair transplant techniques. This would of course be ultimately decided by your hair transplant surgeon following a detailed history and physical examination. I have treated many patients with the Neograft hair replacement system with excellent results with this form of localized hair loss.  Best of luck.

When will I see the full effect of Neograft?

I had neograft done Jan 2015 on the crown part of my head due to PCOS. Since then I have noticed hair growth but not as much as expected. I still need to keep my hair pulled back to hide the spot on my head. I've spent a ton of money and went through alot of physical and emotional healing. I hope that what I have right now is not all I'm going to get.

Hi  and thanks for your question. The final result of hair transplantation into the crown area is at least 12 to 18 months following the initial procedure. Make sure to follow up with your hair transplant practice. There are other options that you may consider including the use of Rogaine and PRP.  Best of luck.

What is neograft hair restoration and do you offer it to your patients?

Hi  and thanks for your question. The Neograft is a surgical tool which removes individual hair follicles from the scalp without leaving a long scar along the back of the head. The individual follicles are then transplanted into the recipient sites and the donor area is allowed to heal without the need for stitches. Patients who  have undergone a Neograft procedure after previously undergoing a strip procedure describe the Neograft procedure as much easier and with a shorter recovery as compared to the strip technic. There also seems to be less noticeable scarring or thinning of the donor area using this advanced technique. Make sure to see an experienced Neograft Hair Restoration practice  to determine if this technology will meet your needs. Best of luck.

Is there any way Neograft can be done to put more hair on the lower back of my head?

...Im 47 year old woman.I have had hair extensions on and off for years..I noticed the back of my hair is very thin and see thru..Is there anyway neograft can be done to put more hair on the lower back of my head?

Hi  and thanks for your question. It is certainly possible to transplant hairs to eighth-inning region of the scalp from a different location where there is more density using a variety of techniques including the Neograft device. However it's very important to diagnose the underlying cause of your hair loss before a treatment plan is created specific to your needs. I would make sure that you  see a surgeon who is very experienced with hair transplant surgery. Best of luck.

Can a cap be worn immediately after procedure to hide the scalp while returning to work? Also how long does hair need to be?

Hi and thanks for your questions. It is not advisable for patients to wear a cap Immediately following transplant surgery for several reasons. It may interfere with the healing process and cause transplanted grafts to be dislodged when putting a cap on or off immediately following the procedure.  I would discuss your specific concerns with your hair transplant team as each practice has specific post operative instructions to obtain the best result. Good luck.
